WMCFW Fall/Winter 2013: Day 2 (Nayme Inc.)

Happy day 2 of World MasterCard Fashion Week! I can feel the exhaustion already but it's worth it because the shows are great so far. The highlight for me last night was definitely Pink Tartan (who recently launched an e-commerce site, LOVE it) - this Canadian designer just gets me. I'm also thinking of investing in a chic cape for fall/winter 2013. They've been featured in almost every show so far.

Today I'm wearing this beautiful dress from Seven Sisters, an in-house brand of Mendocino. The moment I saw it I knew I had to have it! I bought it instantly without even trying it on. Good thing it fits, no? I've paired it with black tights and boots from Nine West, it's unfortunately still chilly outside so gotta keep warm somehow. I decided to go with my Kate Spade bag since it's pretty and can fit a lot of my junk.

I'm wearing a special, dainty little necklace today. It's called the NAYME necklace. I have a little story to tell you. Whenever I used to go to gift shops I'd always see personalized keychains, necklaces and bracelets with people's names on them but they never had mine and it would make me really sad. I even remember crying one time because I wanted a license plate that you put on your room door but they couldn't get one for my name. I had given up on trying to find a piece, anything, with my name. Recently I came across NAYME Inc. (pronounced "name"), which is a sterling silver necklace with a pendant designed to symbolically represent the meaning of a name.

Louise Henry, owner of Nayme Inc., found inspiration for this when she was on a trip in Florida last summer. She, like me, would always look to see her name on a keychain or bracelet but thought they were so tacky, and that's when she decided to make something that revolves around a name but more subtle, prettier and meaningful.

When I met Louise and she told me about her company, the first thing that came to mind was whether she would be able to find a pendant for my name. After a while she finally pulled out the beautiful, black-ribboned gift box and I was in tears...

She made a customized Nayme necklace for me! I honestly haven't stopped wearing it since. Here is proof that I wore at at three difference occasions and there will be many, many more.

Insta-Monday: Globe Style Advisor, WSW Shop Local, GoT Exhibit & More

Happy Monday everyone!

This morning I'm introducing a new weekly series on SummerxSkin called "Insta-Monday". As a blogger and social media manager in one of the busiest cities in the world (Toronto), I have the opportunity to meet really cool people, attend fun events and sample new and interesting products. While I can't blog about everything that happens in my daily life (I really wish I had the time), I've been trying to think of a way to archive it all together so that you can get a glimpse, but so I can keep track of it as well. The best way seems to be through my Instagram profile. I take photos daily (sometimes multiple times) and thought it would be fun to share them here.

Of course if I have a boring week and nothing to report (it happens sometimes), then I won't share photos on the following Monday. This is also, in no way, a lazy way of showing my outfits or anything because I'm a believer of high-quality photos. You can still expect a #stylepost every Wednesday. ;)

1. Spent a day in Oakville and had a lunch with two of my good friends from college, Sara Rozalina and Jen.
2. I was home alone for the week and had the kitchen to myself. A little experiment can go a long way. Baked chicken drumsticks in a spicy BBQ sauce that I made from scratch. It was delicious!
3. As a #GlobeStyleAdvisor blogger, I get the advance copy of each issue and share sneak peeks of photos and articles on my social profiles.
4. Went to Women Supporting Women: Shop Local on a sunny Saturday morning to hear the fabulous Joanna Track of eLuxe.ca speak about entrepreneurship, how to start your own business, tips and tricks on her success.
5. At the same event I finally got to meet Mikayla and Nadim, founders of Kona Kare. after chatting online for months. I've been using my sample of the chocolate peppermint natural lip balm butter non-stop since Saturday.
6. I took Nayme Inc. (Louise and Rachel) as my dates to WSW: Shop Local. We had a great time checking out all the vendors and networking.
7. Don't know if I've mentioned it before but I'm a BIG nerd and absolutely love the show and book series Game of Thrones. I got to check out the Exhibition at Design Exchange in Toronto and took tons of photos. Dragons were present at the venue.
8. It was really cool to see all of the actual set props... this is a collection of some of my favourite ones.
9. I got to sit on the Iron Throne... I regret not taking it home with me, hehe. :(
